Café Murasaki is started from the client’s proposal, which planned to renovate a row of houses into a café. In the beginning, the function was not specific, so the first idea started from a location that is standing in the suburban area of Bangkok. Due to the reason of being hard to access, the function was created under the idea of flexibility, which could adapt to various usages such as a “coffee shop” that provides space for co-working, meeting, or relaxing in the morning, and a “mini bar” that provides space for recessing or socialising.
Café Murasaki is divided into 2 areas. The high-ceiling area is the common area, which consists of many activities. By the way, the steel frame above the counter is not only designed for aesthetic reasons, but it is also used to represent the usability in the café. In daily hours, the steel frame is used to hang the menu and glasses, but it can transform into a space for lighting installation when a party starts. Another remaining area with a low ceiling is proposed to be a private space for meetings or enjoying side dishes.
However, the interesting part of this project is not the final result but how it will be developed in the next decade.
